I review. I don't criticize. My goal is to be the type of reviewer described by Terry Gibbs in his 2003 autobiography, "Good Vibes: A Life in Jazz." "There are a few reviewers that I respect who don't really critique your playing. They look for the nice things that you played that they enjoyed. They never really give you a bad review." If I don't like or understand a CD I just don't review it.
The following material was prepared for www.jazzreview.com and CODA, the noted Canadian jazz magazine. For over two decades my reviews appeared in the Cape Cod Jazz Society's quarterly, "Jazz Notes." Unfortunately "Jazz Notes" was discontinued following its Winter 2003 edition.

From the film "Finding Forrester: "No thinking - that comes later. You must write your first draft with your heart. You rewrite with your head. The first key to writing is... to write, not to think!"
